Activating your Khan Academy Districts teacher account

Welcome to Khan Academy Districts! We're excited to have you on the Khan Academy Districts program this year.

Your first step into your Khan Academy Districts journey should be setting up your Khan Academy account, so we prepared this guide with instructions on how to activate your account to quickly get you started.

Activating with Clever

We recommend the Clever SSO offered by the Khan Academy Districts program as the preferred method to both activate and later log in to your Khan Academy account.

While we do support the alternative activation methods described later in this document, we strongly recommend using Clever for the first-use activation as the most straightforward way to quickly set up your account.

Activating your teacher account for the first time

To activate your teacher account for the first time when you join the Khan Academy Districts program, please follow the steps below:

1. Log in to your Clever portal and find Khan Academy tile

2. Click on the tile to go to the Khan Academy account activation page

3. Choosing to Create a new account will quickly set up your new account and take you to your Teacher Dashboard and the welcome page.
Streamlined process: no further steps needed by authenticating via Clever!

When you dismiss this welcome page by clicking on Skip or Download the guide, you will be taken to your Teacher Dashboard where your classes will be ready for you.

You can also choose Log in to my account to activate your existing account instead.

If you choose to Continue with Google, the system will recognize your Google credential currently logged in. If you are currently logged into multiple accounts, they will be listed so you can choose the correct one.

Choose the account linked to the Khan Academy account you wish to activate, then continue through the Google flow or provide your existing account username/email and password.

4. Once your existing account is authenticated, you will be taken to your Teacher Dashboard, where your classes will be ready for you.

Returning teachers: Using the Clever portal

If you have already activated your Khan Academy Districts account before, the process is even quicker!

1. Log in to your Clever portal and find Khan Academy tile

Because your Clever ID should already be linked to your account from the previous term when you activated into Khan Academy Districts through Clever, you will be taken directly to your Teacher Dashboard.

Your new district-synced classes should include your name in the title.

Note that you will not see your district-synced classes from the prior school year, as they have been removed in preparation for the new school term.

Alternative Activation Methods

While we recommend the Clever SSO as the preferred method to both activate and later log in to your Khan Academy account, we offer the offering alternative methods so you and your district can choose the right one for you.

Using the Activation Email

When you are first enrolled in the Khan Academy Districts program, your district may choose for you to receive a welcome email. This email includes a brief explanation of the program and a Confirm your account button so you can activate your account into the program.

1. Click on Confirm your account on the welcome email received

2. You will be taken to the Khan Academy account activation page

3. Choosing to Create a new account will show the Continue with Google button so you can create a new account using your Google credentials, or choose a password to create a new account using your district email address.

You can also choose Log in to my account to activate your existing account instead.

If you choose to Continue with Google, the system will recognize your Google credential currently logged in. If you are currently logged into multiple accounts, they will be listed so you can choose the correct one.

Choose the account linked to the Khan Academy account you wish to activate, then continue through the Google flow or provide your existing account username/email and password.

4. Once your new or existing account is authenticated, you will be taken to your Teacher Dashboard, where your classes will be ready for you.

Returning teachers: Using the Welcome Back email

For teachers who were already part of the Khan Academy Districts program in the previous year, the district might choose to send a Welcome Back Email instead.

In this case, click on the Access my account button on the email to go directly to your Teacher Dashboard where your classes will be ready for you. 

Using the Continue with Clever button

Another option to activate your Khan Academy Districts teacher account is to access our Sign Up page directly and choose to Continue with Clever.

1. Visit our Sign Up page and click on the Continue with Clever button

Note: Choosing a sign-up method other than Continue with Clever in this step will lead to the creation of a grassroots account instead of a district one! If this happens, please start again with another activation method and choose to use this recently-created existing account instead of creating a new one.  And remember: our Support team is always happy to help!

2. In the next page, authenticate with your Clever credentials to proceed

3. You will be taken to the Khan Academy account activation page

4. Choosing to Create a new account will show the Continue with Google button so you can create a new account using your Google credentials, or choose a password to create a new account using your district email address.

You can also choose Log in to my account to activate your existing account instead.

5. Once your new or existing account is authenticated, you will be taken to your Teacher Dashboard, where your classes will be ready for you.

Returning teachers: Continue with Clever button (and more!)

Teachers who have previously activated their Khan Academy Districts account can choose to visit our Homepage at any time and choose the Continue with Clever button to go directly to their Teacher Dashboard. 

Because the account has already been previously activated, they can choose to log in to their district account using any method available (including Google SSO, Apple SSO, and email), as long as they are logging into their correct district account.

When in doubt, the best option to quickly access your account will always be the Continue with Clever button!
