If you are a teacher who uses Khan Academy in your classroom, you may want to download your students’ assignment data. Luckily, this is possible through the assignments CSV available on the class Settings page!
The CSV is a downloadable spreadsheet containing your students’ assignment data. In it, you can see details about your students' scores and completion dates for every assignment you’ve created for your class.
Understanding the CSV report
Let’s go through the different fields that make up the CSV:
- Assignment Name: This is the name of the content (exercise, video, or article) that’s displayed in Khan Academy.
- Student Name: The spreadsheet will show the display name you chose to see for your student. If you didn’t set a display name for them, it’ll show their nickname.
- Score at Due Date: This is the student’s score at the due date.
- Score Best Ever: This column shows the student’s best score ever on that particular assignment regardless of the due date.
- Points Possible: This is the total score possible for the exercise.
- Number of Attempts: This column displays the number of attempts your student did on that particular assignment.
- Most Recent Completion Date: This column shows the most recent date your student completed that assignment.
- Start Date: This is the start date you selected for the assignment.
- Due Date: This is the due date you selected for the assignment.
- Assignment URL: This column links the assignment URL so you can easily access the content page.
- Assignment Type: This column details which is the assignment type (if it’s an exercise, video, or article).
The screenshot below is an example of what CSV looks like.
In the example above, you can see that the student carol2 got 1 questions right out of 7 on the assignment "Isotope composition: Counting protons, electrons, and neutrons".
Video assignments also appear on this spreadsheet! You can check when a student watches a video that has been assigned to them by looking at the "Most Recent Completion Date". If they haven't watched or completed the exercises assigned to them, there won't be any dates for that content on the spreadsheet.
You can download the CSV in your Class settings, as shown below:
Our best suggestion for Teachers to manipulate the CSV is with Microsoft Excel or Google Spreadsheet.
We currently have two possibilities to see detailed students' progress:
- the Assignment reports (such as the “Scores” and “Manage” tabs, for example)
- the assignments’ CSV— a downloadable spreadsheet containing your students’ assignment data.
Assignment reports allow you to see the performance and progress of your classes and students, and help you identify gaps in their understanding. Here are some links that might be helpful:

Frequently asked questions
- What happens if I remove a student from the class?
The student’s data will not show up on the CSV anymore.
- What happens if I edit the assignment?
The CSV will reflect any changes you’ve made for that assignment (e.g., if you removed students from the assignment or if you edited the start or due date for that assignment).
- Does the CSV show assignments that were deleted?
It does not. The data of assignments that were deleted do not show up on the class CSV, and cannot be recovered.
- Does the CSV show assignments that are scheduled for a future date?
No, it doesn’t. The CSV spreadsheet shows only active assignments.
- Does the CSV show Course Mastery progress?
At this moment, the CSV spreadsheet shows only Assignments data.
- What happens when content is removed from the course I’m using in my classroom?
If you notice a message saying “This assignment has no content” in the Manage tab, it means that content was removed from the course you’re using. In this case, the CSV will reflect this change; the spreadsheet will also show a message saying “This assignment has no content”.
